"A child's life is like a piece of paper on which every person leaves a mark." (Chinese Proverb)
My goal in teaching is to make an indelible mark in the lives of my students, as they inevitably make their marks on mine. My printer, unfortunately, made its last mark a couple of months ago.
I teach children with special needs in a Kindergarten Special Day class in a Title I school.
My students' qualifying conditions range from Mild/Severe Mental Retardation to Speech/Language Disorders. The majority of my students are English Language Learners. Many of my students have emerging speech, some do not talk, and I have one or two who can speak in 2-5 word phrases or simple sentences. Our entire class receives speech services, and our classroom is by nature a language-rich environment where we utilize multiple approaches to language development.
My Project
My students need an all-in-one printer, ink, and paper to print photos and icons for visual schedules and to create tasks and communication tools for my students. In our structured classroom, we use student pictures, visual schedules, icons for communication, worksystems that utilize icons, and tasks that I often make using BoardMaker symbols, including making cards for our classroom card reader. The scan function will allow me to scan items to print out in color for tasks and also to use in creating multimedia learning experiences by projecting them using our interactive whiteboard.
Please help my students succeed by allowing me to continue giving them the educational, organizational, and communication tools that printed visual aids such as learning tasks, schedules, icons, and pictures provide.
You will help them to become independent learners who can learn concepts, follow classroom routines, and communicate their needs.
