My Students
The students at my school come from a variety of backgrounds, family styles, and social/economic statuses. Being a Title 1 school, we service a large number of students in lower SES areas. In my classroom, students love to learn through music and song and enjoy listening to a story each day. The work we do within our read-aloud time reflects their strong comprehension of fictional and nonfictional texts. However, some enjoy listening to stories read by me, or read by someone else, and enjoy the variety of illustrations they see within the texts.
Despite what the children may face at home when they walk into the classroom they become genuine, bright and loving children.
We are part of a larger school that celebrates inclusion. As my students make gains in my classroom, they coach their peers to build their knowledge and confidence. My classroom is about building skills to get included. The work we do in this classroom is building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways. They thrive on consistency and aim to please!
My Project
Currently, my classroom has a 20+-year-old carpet which has been reinforced with rugs to provide a clean and colorful space to learn. Next year, the carpet will be removed and be replaced with tile to provide a cleaner learning environment. Rugs can be difficult for 5 and 6-year-olds on a slippery tile floor.
By donating to our classroom rug project, you will not only help to improve and increase student attention and focus, you will ultimately help to increase their academic achievement.
Students can enjoy a good text, discuss comprehension skills comfortably among their peers, and have a safe space to sit.
