My Students

Our school is a barrier-free Title I funded school, home to over fifteen hundred students, with over seventy languages spoken. My children are resilient, dedicated, and determined to overcome any obstacles that they may need to overcome to soar to new heights. I am in awe of their perseverance and how they strive to be the best possible. To say that I am proud to be their teacher is truly an understatement.

This has started out to be a challenging year and as a school community, we are putting emphasis on promoting wellness within our classroom.

My Project

I am requesting direct instruction reading and writing curriculums. These programs will help all of my struggling children learn how to read and write which will have a direct impact on their health and wellness.

With our return to full-time in-person instruction, it has been a challenging year as more than 80% of my class is functioning almost a year and a half below where they should be.

Our children have not been in the building since March of 2020 which means they were in kindergarten at that time. The academic deficiencies in my children are extensive and have caused a lot of stress and anxiety in my amazing children.

When it comes time for reading and some of them cry or lose confidence because they simply cannot read. These deficiencies are having a profound effect on the health and wellness of my children. Their comfort level and sense of belonging have been severely compromised. Being able to read can improve health and well-being.

Reading can help reduce stress and slow cognitive decline. It also enhances social skills which are so important for a child's well-being. It can also boost intelligence which will provide my children will the confidence to maintain a healthy outlook on their education. The reading Mastery set and Rave -O utilize a multi-sensory approach to reading. This program will help all of my struggling children learn how to read which will have a direct impact on their health and wellness. Struggling readers will be given the tools needed via this program to learn how to segment, blend, and decode words. Framing your thoughts provides direct instruction that will help my students learn the fundamentals of writing. This will alleviate unnecessary stress and improve my student's overall health.
