Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have worked at my current school for over 5 years, and the longer I am there, the more I realize the importance of hands-on learning. When students are coming from a disadvantaged background, they deserve every support to make the learning more accessible to them! I love teaching at my school because the students have so much love to give and they thrive on relationships built within the safety of a classroom. I am also in a special situation where I moved grade levels, so I am able to have some of the same students for the second time, just at a higher grade level!
I work at a Title I school in Texas where 100% of students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Each and every day my students come into my classroom excited to be at school because for some of them it is the only stable situation in their lives. They are greeted at the door with a smile and a high-five each day.
Any projects funded will be incredibly beneficial for all of my students!
My Project
When students are immersed in literature, they begin to make connections to their learning on their own. By implementing these books into our regular curriculum, as well as leaving them out during non-instructional times, students will be able to re-access any knowledge they gained from the books during whole-group.
When students have access to quality literature, it enhances their education ten-fold.
When students only have access to quality reading materials at school, we really have to focus on providing for them! I look forward to planning and implementing some of this read-aloud in our regular lesson plans in order to encourage literacy in my math classroom!
