My Students

My students come from diverse backgrounds and enter my classroom with a variety of needs. As a 4th grade teacher in an Iowa public school, I strive to provide a safe and welcoming place for each of my students. I want them to come to school excited to learn and grow in an engaging and collaborative classroom community. I am a first year teacher who is looking for help to offset the costs of furniture needed in order to create a classroom that runs smoothly.

My Project

Our class held a meeting to discuss ways in which I, the teacher, could improve our classroom to better support student needs. One of the ideas students had was to have mailboxes where they can store the things they do not need on their desk throughout the day, for example their take home folder and planner.

This organizer will serve as a mailbox for my students.

It will provide them with a better way to keep items cleared off their desk while also making sure important papers make it home. I am excited to be able to provide this organizer for my students so they will each have a mailbox.

At FES, we use PBIS for positive reinforcement. One of the rewards students can earn is to sit in the teacher's chair for a day. I currently use the same chair that students do, so this chair would provide me with a way to continue to support students' positive behaviors.
