This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a Title I school we have very little funding for art supplies and do not have any murals on the walls in our school. Students have learned the elements and principles of art and are ready to make a statement! With your help my students can create the mural as a final gift to our High School!
My students are grades nine through twelve and come from a variety of backgrounds.
Many students are at high risk and come from extreme poverty. My students display a love for art and creative activities. Students choose visual art I and II, Drawing and Painting and 3-D courses. Our students are very creative with diverse styles of expression. For many art may be the only way out of poverty.
My Project
Your donation of brushes and paint will allow the students to paint a large mural on the bare walls of our school. The mural will allow for showcasing student talent in a way to support and honor the astronaut the school was named after. Students will combine ideas into a design and use the grid method to transfer their design in proportion onto the mural wall. Using brushes and mural paint they will complete the mural and dedicate their Mural of Respect.
Donations to this project will make a difference in my classroom by providing students with paint brushes and paint to create a mural.
Students will experience professional real world activities. At the same time students will build character by painting in honor and respect for a distinguished person who gave to the community and the world.
