Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students have very big hearts and truly make due with what they have. For some school is their safe haven from extremely poverty stricken and violent homes. My students are in a very low income community. They are kind and loving but may not get all the things they need. I have more girls than boys in the group I have now and they are very helpful. I have really gotten to know these students well in the last few months. I have already learned that I have children who come from needy families. Some of my children come from split families where they may or may not see one or both parents. I am very lucky to be able to touch these kiddos lives. They are very creative and love to be able to explore their learning world through my classroom.
Each child in the class has his or her own unique personality that has really brought our community together.
They are very creative and are starting to really enjoy the academic world and are improving every day.
My Project
In a first grade classroom tens frames, pattern blocks, double sided counters, number lines, and 120 charts are essential tools for learning. It is important that the tools the students use in the classroom are up to date and exciting for the children. The tools that were selected will be used to replace broken and out dated things that were left by the previous teacher that taught in the room.
Students will have a hands on approach to learning with the math tools that were selected.
This is very important especially for those children who need to manipulate materials to learn. The class sets of number lines, tens frames, and pattern blocks will be a welcome addition to the classroom. We are always in shortage of the green triangle pattern blocks in the entire building. This makes it tricky to teach a few lessons that are in our math series. We will be grateful for this.
