While I have been a 5th grade teacher for several years, this is only my second year teaching math. I love teaching it, but lack the resources necessary to make it exciting and interesting for my students. This project could help change that for my potential future engineers.
I teach the greatest kids in the greatest community in the world!!!
There is quite an economic diverse community of learners - some of my students are on welfare and some are the children of surgeons. I love my fifth graders because they are still a bit in awe of me, yet they get my jokes and can dish them right back.
My Project
What I am requesting are materials that will make math more meaningful to my students. My goal is to reach every kind of learner in my room and inspire them to love math. In order to do this, I need a variety of materials that appeal to various learning styles. The board games will be great for my extroverts, the posters will assist my visual learners, the resource books will offer activities to appeal to a variety of learners.
Math is not just an academic subject.
It is a life skill. Just like learning team work, cooperation, perseverance, tolerance. Math is used daily in our lives. It is not just an academic subject, it is a life skill. And unless children see its relevance, they will lack the motivation to learn it. Please, help me make math relevant......and marvelous!!!
