Are you good at math? Did you like math as a child? Most of my students are just starting to learn mathematical concepts and I want them to be successful. I want them to find math enjoyable and fun. In order to make this happen I need to keep worksheets to a minimum and have hands-on activities
I love teaching 1st grade.
My school is an absolutely wonderful place to learn and grow, but it is in an extremely impoverished urban school district. Many of my students are political refugees from southern Iraq, others are Hispanic and Latino students who are working hard to learn "instructional" English. Combine that with a traditional bunch of American students and you get a melting pot of learners that make every day exciting. Please check out our Donors Choose projects. My Project
I am a first year teacher, and believe my students deserve to have all of the math materials and manipulatives which are needed to learn math concepts. These math materials will give my students the visual support they need in order to succeed. My class is made up of 24 amazing first graders who are all eager to learn, and they love math. We need many supplies in our classroom, and math supplies are top on our list. These kids deserve to have materials that every other student has. We are in an urban community and funds are very limited. As a first year teacher I am trying my best to purchase or make many of the materials that are needed in my classroom, but some are out of my reach.
These materials will enhance my students' learning in numerous ways.
Students need math visuals and manipulatives to play with in order to see the bigger picture of the math concept. The math manipulatives will also help them be prepared for the future. The flash cards will help them master skills they will need for the rest of their lives, the money manipulatives will allow them to add money quickly and effectively, and the math games will keep learning fun.
