"Around here, we don't look backwards for very long. We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things because we are curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths." - Walt Disney
I am always looking for creative ways to motivate and engage my students.
I teach an average of 18 to 25 third graders each year. My students come from a variety of different backgrounds. I teach in a Title 1, Mission Possible, and PYP school. We cater in teaching our students in becoming global learners and thinkers. Many of my students do not come to schools with supplies and lack grade level reading material at home. It is important for me to provide them with what I can in order for them to feel successful and a part of our learning community.
The resources that I am requesting are an iPad and subscription to Story works. The Story works subscription will allow me to use the stories to teach relevant comprehension skills to my students. The stories are relevant, engaging, and provides higher order questioning that will allow my students to think actively. The Story works subscription is a consumable that will provide them with grade level to above level text to take and read at home. The iPad will be a technological tool that is greatly needed. This will allow the students to do a variety of things such as play educational games, listen to stories, and present. It also will allow me to take the students on virtual field trips by connecting it to the document camera and projector.
Teaching in the 21st century can be a challenge.
There is so much technology around us but not every child has the resource available to them at home. As a teacher, I feel that this project will improve my classroom by engaging the disengaged by creating endless opportunities for learning!
