Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Kindergarten is the springboard into a students education. My students are special because for many this is their first educational setting. Every child deserves the best education that is available to them.
I teach in a high poverty school in Pennsylvania, with a high percentage of students coming from a low socioeconomically backgrounds.
Imagine being a new student, in a new environment, separated from your family for the first time, this is the reality for most of the students in my classroom. I want their first educational experience to be extraordinary!
My Project
Magna tiles will allow my 25 active Kindergarten students the opportunity to use hands on materials to create, explore, and master basic math concepts such as shapes, colors, and how the can fit together and make a more intricate shape. Magna tiles will allow the students basic engineering concepts through creative play.
Magna tiles will allow my students to create stem activities such as building a house for the Three Little Pigs, building a bridge to react the Three Billy Goats Gruff, and allowing them to explore their own creations.
Many students that I teach do not have access to necessary materials to foster and promote higher level thinking.
