I am a self-contained, second grade teacher at a rural school in southwest Ohio. My students come from a variety of backgrounds. These backgrounds include but are not limited to farm, military, foster, and working class families.
I feel as if my students are like my children; I learn valuable lessons from them daily.
They are all very active, creative, and diligent learners.
Our class motto is "Mistakes are Proof You are Trying". We believe in the power of Yet.
My Project
My students amaze me daily with their math minds. Our math class begins each lesson with the number of the day. Every student participates by brainstorming ways to make the number in his or her math notebook. Then each student adds his or her most creative way to make the number to our magnetic whiteboard. We only have a few magnetic manipulatives which are always chosen first. The students love to build numbers not just write numbers.
Magnets+ Math= Magnificent Mathematicians
This project would help my students see , touch, and think about numbers. Number sense is the foundation of more complicated math concepts.
