Magnets & Electricity

My students need high quality non fiction reading material to supplement their Science curriculum. They are also in need of high quality hands on materials ( K'Nex) to construct their thoughts into models.

My Students

My student come from a small rural area. They are at varying levels in their ability to read and do math but they are all "on level" for Science. This is a subject that appeals to the majority of students. They love hands on activities and the ability to get up and move around the room to explore.

This is the first year we have a Science Lab in the school and the students are so excited!

We are scheduled to go every Thursday and they ask each day "Is it Thursday and time for the Science Lab". We have done a few simple experiments and are looking forward to many more this school year. Along with the experiments I want to provide good literature (non-fiction and some fiction) to grab their attention. The students LOVE to have a book read to them.

I have a very small classroom library but few few Science books and I want want to give them a love of learning, reading and seeing what they can accomplish.

My Project

My 3rd grade students need non fiction books to supplement their Science curriculum. They are also in need of high quality hands on materials to explore, model and experiment.

The materials I have chosen will help both the visual and hands on learners in my classroom.

Some students do well by listening and reading but MOST need the actual hands on activities to help them "SEE" what they are learning.

By taking my students to the Science Lab once a week they are able to create, investigate, discuss and work as a TEAM to come to a successful outcome. So much learning goes on in the Lab. Working together and discussing their thoughts and ideals is getting easier as the school year progresses. They also need non fiction books that are on their grade level to help them understand and apply their findings.
