My students need these magnets to study magnetic fields and to create electromagnets.
I believe teaching is a life-long learning process. A strong teacher is willing to experiment with and adapt a wide variety of teaching methods, as he or she understands not all students learn in the same way. I feel that my students actively participate during my lessons, rather than passively learn. When planning a course of instruction, I identify a set of objectives and skills that each student should gain during that class period or activity.
Students know when they step into my classroom that they will be comfortable, encouraged, and treated with respect.
I promote a learning environment that promotes the sharing of ideas and supports outside of the box thinking.
I maintain that all classroom activities should be engaging and authentic. I want my students to be able to apply what they have learned in my class into their own life. I want them to be able to use their knowledge gained and apply it to real-world situations. I use differentiated instruction and multiple ways of teaching because I understand each child is a unique. I will also strive to incorporate a wide variety of kinesthetic, hands-on and technology-based activities in my classroom.
This project is tied to state standards and will help my students better understand magnetic fields. A field model will be used to explain how two objects can exert forces on each other without ever touching. Students will experience the power of magnetic forces and will research where these forces are used in everyday realities.
This lab is a real world application that allows the students to understand how these items affect their daily life.
Students will also conduct a hands-on lab to create an electromagnet. During that lab students will be competing to see which creation can lift the most items.
