As a teacher in an school where the students are mostly economically disadvantaged with limited resources, my students face many challenges that are more difficult for them because of their situations. Despite the many challenging situations that my students face, they want to learn and become excited when they are fully engaged.
We have survived our school being impacted by a tornado and having to change schools for the end of last year.
We will still be sharing a school with another school until it can be determined where we will be permanently placed. Having students excited about learning makes a difference and knowing we can overcome challenges makes us stronger individually and as a community.
My students will become even more excited when able to explore through STEAM Makerspaces. Children learn when their hands are moving and their minds are engaged. I am changing grades this year from first to fourth and would like to have my students enthusiastically engaged from day one.
My Project
My students will be so excited to be able to explore different science concepts through hands-on experiences. Through the use of Sian Rev Electromag and origami animals, students will learn several of the concepts from our science curriculum. They will learn how magnets operate, how to create their own magnets and will be able to write about their experiences. Through creating origami animals, students will be able choose an animal to use for their research on Habitats. They can create the ecosystem and be able to write competently through their learning experience.
Knowing my students are fully engaged, I know they will want to master many other concepts to come.
Many students who are reluctant to try new concepts or even struggle with reading, become more excited and more engaged and want to be a part of the classroom experience.
