This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a great Title I school. Many of our students are a part of the free and reduced-price breakfast and lunch program. My fourth graders are fun and amazing students. They love to learn and are very curious. They come to school with smiles on their faces and are ready to learn. They love to share with me and their classmates what they know and what they have learned. They love a healthy environment. They take pride in keeping our classroom nice, neat, and clean.
My Project
Our current whiteboard is not magnetic, and we have trouble writing on it. It is extremely hard to keep clean. It is time and necessary to replace it. We don't use our current whiteboard as much as we need and would like to. When my students or I write on it, the ink barely shows up. Therefore it is tough for anyone to read what is on it.
The whiteboard is a great tool to have in the classroom.
I use the whiteboard to model strategies, post notes, homework, and for so many other things during the school day.
We use chart paper for many different activities. We currently have to tape the paper to the board, but having a magnetic board will make it easier to hang chart paper. For example, if we are working on similes, I have students locate similes in their books that they are currently reading, write them on a sticky note, and post them on the chart. We are then able to share and discuss the similes that they have located.
Having something that the whole group can see and use makes teaching and learning much easier.
