This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
This is a bright and active group of five and six-year-old children. They love to create and tell stories. They love to read and be read to. They are quickly learning to work together, which is a vital skill in our world. My children work in small groups and independently throughout the day. This helps them learn to focus and improve self-control issues.
We grow in all areas by practicing and playing together.
Writing throughout the day in science, social studies, math, and even in art helps us in so many ways. We get noisy, but we learn so much together. We need supplies to grow as readers, writers, and illustrators. We need to show the colors of our ideas. We need ways to be active and help us learn to control our ADHD tendencies. There is so much to learn.
My Project
Kindergarten children are fascinated with magnets. They honestly beg for more time to interact with all forms of magnets.
Pattern blocks are terrific concrete ways to study fractions.
Two trapezoids get together to make one hexagon. Three triangles make a trapezoid. These facts are truly understood when you can make the matches over and over. Doing this with magnets will be fun.
These explorations will allow my kindergarten children to master the fractions, tie in strong vocabulary and have fun. That makes this a win-win-win situation. These building sets will help my mathematicians continue to grow and interact positively with complex math skills.
