Help me give my students magnetic letters, boards, and a storage space for these to live so that we can practice reading and writing our sight words! We need to master these so that we can read fluently!
My school is an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse city school in an older neighborhood. The students that will benefit from this project are 5 to 7 year olds, for most of whom, this is their first experience with learning in a formal setting. They are so excited to learn about the world around them! When I can use that budding excitement and create learning momentum with it, the perfect environment for character development and life skills can be created!
My students are on fire for reading and progressing at lightening speed, but they could use help in mastering sight words!
Sight words are the instrumental to the success of early reading and one of the easiest ways to quickly impact the fluency of reading. When kiddos know their sight words they are able to decode new and more difficult words with greater ease and speed which helps their overall comprehension of a text.
Sight words make a tremendous difference in a child's early reading success! If they can master sight words they become proficient readers sooner and enjoy reading so much more!
Giving the gift of reading and writing to children is truly priceless.
You can help give this gift to my students by helping them learn to recognize, read, and spell our 100 Kindergarten and 150 First Grade sight words!
Students will use these magnetic letters to build sight words on the magnetic boards, quiz their friends, play a variety of sight word games, and increase their reading fluency daily. We will use these to build reading stamina, reading fluency, and word families. These materials will be used for approximately 30-45 minutes each day and for many years to come.
