My students need to have materials like the Create-A-Path magnetic center that they can use to build ramps, paths and structures to experiment with motion, cause and effect.
My students are preschoolers with an identified disability such as speech impairment, cognitive impairment, autism spectrum disorder, or vision/physical/health impairment.
They may appear like the typical precocious two, three, four, or five year old until they speak or interact with their environment or other children/adults.
Then it becomes apparent that they need more support for their learning in order to gain those academic, gross, and fine motor, behavioral, and communication skills that come much easier to their non-impaired peers.
My goal for my students is that, at the end of their educational journey with me - whether I have them for a few months or a few years - they are ready to join their non-disabled peers in a general education classroom with fewer supports needed than when they started. I want them to be empowered.
My Project
My preschool students learn a lot about the physical world through play. In recent play opportunities, many of them have been using any materials available to make ramps and then pushing, pouring, or rolling objects or toys down them.
The Tumble Trax and Create-A-Path sets will give them many extended chances to create runways and tunnels to test the limits of gravity and physics.
Having multiple pieces that they can manipulate easily and stick to the magnetic board on the classroom wall will be sure to keep their bodies and minds engaged. Working with their peers, they can develop their test tracks and run with them.
