This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a kindergarten special education teacher in a 12:1 self-contained Title I school in the Bronx. The children in my classroom have different levels of academic, communication, social, and independent functioning skills. They are all very special and they each have their own strengths as well as areas that present more difficulty for them. My students are able to learn many of the same things as students in the general education classroom setting, but they simply require specialized instructional strategies, repetition of information, sensory-based activities, assistance in communicating, etc. I love teaching them because every day is different.

My Project

My kiddos love hands on learning, don't all kids? I know that making learning fun is super important especially when things still don't seem too normal. When learning site words I try to come up with as many fun ways to make them stick! Jumping, singing, tracing and writing are just a few. These magnetic boards would be so much fun to help in learning site words, sounds and even creating sentences! I can use it during small group or even as a center! They would have a ball creating new and reviewing old words with the magnets as well as writing on the whiteboard! Learning made fun and sure to stick!
