My Project

The key to helping a child learn to read is providing quality instruction in foundational reading skills. Magnetic letters play an important role in developing these foundational skills for my young learners. Having letters to manipulate by putting them together to make words, as well as breaking words apart to understand onset and rime, will help them recognize words quickly and accurately. This leads to fluent reading, which leads to comprehension.

I have been teaching for over sixteen years, and this is the first time I have used DonorsChoose.

I am passionate about teaching young children to read and write, and I am in the process of shifting my practice to become more systematic, sequential, and science based. Knowledge of phonics is essential for young readers, and magnetic letters and white boards are great tools in establishing a strong foundation.
