I teach in a classroom of four typically developing children and eight children who have identified disabilities ranging in age from three to five years old. However, we have two other classrooms in our building, one that mirrors mine, and a Head-Start classroom of twenty. So, in total we have 41 preschoolers moving throughout the three classrooms working on various projects and learning from all our wonderful staff. Preschool children, in general, are very hands-on and active, and the children we seem to be serving year after year is in need of sensory experiences.
Our school has a population of students that 91% live below the poverty level, and of those, 41% are homeless living in nearby shelters, so we try hard to provide wonderful experiences that will assist the children not only academically, but emotionally and socially.
The first item we are looking for is a stand up two-sided wipe off the board that is magnetic. We can put a lot of activities on it on this special board that is magnetic, like our stories and their props.
The other two items in this project are really fun magnetic tubes that you can place a ball into and it will fall through the tunnels if you line them up correctly.
The second item is a tray like piece that a gear which can be three different sizes follows the path from top to bottom. If you don't put the items on in the right angle then its back to the drawing board to think it through!
