My students are creative, clever and very spontaneous.
They are energetic and are motivated to explore new things.
Many of my students are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These factors may prevent my students from getting a good educational foundation early in life and if this is the case, they will lack the educational and social classroom experiences many of us see as "typical." From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
It is so important to focus on working with preschool children so they can have amazing experiences that encourage discovery through play, asking questions, exploration and using creativity to solve simple problems. A light table in our science center would give the children a place to spark their creativity. A light table would give the children a place to explore color with our transparent color paddles. A light table would provide an illuminated surface to place nature items on and the children to investigate the items with magnifying glasses. The clear magna-tiles and power clix would provide activities with magnets and entice the children to learn about the properties of magnets.
When it comes to teaching science, early childhood educators have tremendous impact and influence on shaping the thoughts and opinions of children.
Research shows that most children have formed an opinion (either positive or negative) about science by the time they reach the age of 7. Teaching science is not an option for the early childhood educator… it’s a MUST!
We as teachers have the opportunity to create amazing experiences that will have a lasting impact on our students. I had a wonderful science teacher when I was in the fifth and sixth grades. He instilled in me a love for science that I still have today. I am asking for these resources in order to create a fun and exciting science center for my students and hopefully instill a love for science they will carry with them from this point onward.
