I reside in room 10. It is a colorful, quaint kindergarten classroom; yep, kindergarten. I love it! There is never a dull moment in kindergarten and I wouldn't change it for the world. Dancing, singing, and making learning FUN!
My "kbabies", as I like to call them, are my pride and joy.
Each year, good days and bad days, these kids are mine. This year I have 16 students (small class, I know) 11 bouncing boys and only 5 sweet girls. My school is located in a very small town and has an 82% poverty rate. Some of our students look forward to coming to school because they will know where their next meal is coming from. Sometimes a hug from us is the only hug they will get that day. THAT is why I stay at this school and why I love going to work each and every day.
My students are only in kindergarten and we talk every single day about what goals we have, what we want to be when we grow up, and how you NEVER give up on your goals no matter how big they may seem to their small little minds. Nothing is impossible. I hope to instill this in them, make them believe that with a little effort and a positive attitude anything they set out to achieve is possible.
My Project
These white boards will be a HUGE asset to our writing lessons. My students learn how to write complete sentences in kindergarten. Right now we are using paper that has been in the closet for years. Remember that old brown writing paper you used as a child? Yes, that. When they erase it falls apart. With these boards the children will have the opportunity to write, learn correct writing form, and easily erase and try again if they make a mistake.
We write every day. Some days we have structured writing, and some days students are allowed to write about ANYTHING they want. They love doing this because it gives them the chance to write about the things they enjoy (princesses, monster trucks, aliens, ballerinas, etc). With these boards writing will be made easier for them and the resources will not be used up.
This project will improve my classroom and make it easier for the students to practice their writing.
The students visit a writing center everyday. Right now the students are using old, thin paper that we have in our supply closets. The students are still learning to spell and sound out words so they are frequently erasing and starting over. I teach them to always try on their own so these boards will make it easier for the students to make corrections and try to sound out their words alone.
