Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students do their very best reading when they have the ability to read from unique genres that are both engaging and open their minds to think creatively. By reading these texts in small group book clubs students will be able to have lively discussions that will help them develop academic conversation skills while reading from a text that truly excites them as a reader. The opportunity to read interesting magical realism texts will offer encouragement for students to continue developing a love for reading.
My Project
My students will have an opportunity to access texts that make them excited about becoming lifelong readers. These texts have the capability to help my students understand unique literary elements and discuss them with their peers. Having access to books like these and the opportunity to discuss them in literature circles will provide my students with a unique learning opportunity and content to discuss in authentic conversations where they can further understand the texts through the perspectives of their classmates. Apart from students having opportunities to discuss these unique texts in small groups they will also be part of a larger conversation about the magical realism genre that will be a whole-class focus.
