My Students

Noses in books. Reading. Researching. Discussing and discovering the mysteries of the world until now unknown to the average fifth grader. Uniting cultural experiences that literature and fine arts provide through the lens of Common Core Standards. . . these are the daily goals of my class.

I have an eclectic and energetic group of fifth graders!

Providing meaningful learning experiences to enhance their understanding of the world is vital, since my students hail from all walks of life. While my school may be located in a moderately affluent community, not all of my students are afforded the same opportunities for success. I have a population of second language learners, special education students, and gifted students, in addition to traditional students, that require alternate ways to access the curriculum effectively to meet their individual needs. Therefore, I have to create opportunities for success for each and every one of them. The diverse and supportive community allows me to do this is creative ways.

My Project

I am hoping to inspire a new generation of readers with the magical experience of reading J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone.

This is a simple request to put a beloved story in the hands of my students.

Once they have entered the magical world of Hogwarts, they will be hooked! Luckily, the series will provide countless hours of engaging reading for students who may have otherwise been reluctant readers.

By requesting 8 books, the kids will be able to participate in their very own book clubs, sharing their newfound love for the trials and tribulations of Harry and his friends.
