Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach at Title 1 school where all students receive free breakfast and lunch. I have high expectations for growth and academic achievement from my students. Along with our curriculum, I teach typing, coding, and chess. School is a safe and happy place where my students love to come and explore with me. For many of my students, being at school and learning is the best part of their day. I teach Math and Science to 2 classes of second graders.
My Project
The manipulatives will provide hands on learning for a better understanding of the math concepts I teach. Dice will be used in a wide variety of math learning station activities such as adding and subtracting with regrouping. The magnetic ten frames will allow the students to visually see how numbers are put together and decomposed. This will allow them to better understand how to add, subtract as well as lay the foundation for multiplication and division. Unifix cubes are a colorful hands on manipulative the add in measurement as well as adding and subtracting with regrouping. These materials will be a Magical Mathematical hands on addition to our classroom.
