Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My school is located in a low-income area. Due to the number of families that qualify for free lunch, my school is qualified as a Title I school. Many of my students come from homes where education is not a top priority. Families are busy just trying to survive daily life. Unfortunately, this means many of the parents are not around to help their children with their education. As a result, I need to do as much supplementation as I can to help my students achieve.
I believe every child is capable of learning if they are but given the opportunities, experiences, and support they need to do so.
My third grade students are full of life and have a sincere desire to learn. They are capable of achieving academic success. My students need a wide variety of opportunities and materials that will help aid them in becoming successful learners and citizens.
My Project
I am excited to have my students work with the VersaTiles and Hot Dots materials. These materials reinforce the core concepts and skills the students need to master on three different grade levels. As a result, all of my students will be able to benefit from using the materials. What is even more exciting about the materials is that they are formatted as games. Children love to play games.
As my students are interacting with these games, "magical" learning and mastery will take place.
What is better than learning in a fun, interactive way and not even realizing you are learning? My students will be excited and engaged in their learning.
I will be utilizing the VersaTiles and Hot Dots materials in small groups and as centers during which students will be using the materials on an individual and/or partner basis. Because the games are set up on a self-check basis, students will be able to have immediate feedback on their progress. I truly believe the VersaTiles and Hot Dots materials will make a difference in the lives of my students.
