I teach students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade during their library time and also during an extra period called PLC. Our school is labeled Title I, which means that the majority of students have been identified as at-risk and have lower socioeconomic statuses.
Half of the campus is composed of bilingual classes, and most of the students speak Spanish as their first language.
We rely on donations and grants to fund many of the great opportunities we want to offer our students.
My Project
Stem bins contain manipulatives for building and finding solutions to challenges. Students will read books and then use the materials from the stem bin to complete a task. The students will choose which materials best fit the task and appeal to them personally. The stem bins ensure that whatever materials the students want to use, we will have them available.
The materials in the stem bins promote critical thinking and problem solving in a group.
These activities given students opportunities to develop the 21st century skills that they will need to be successful in their future careers. The tasks will be so fun that the students will not even realize that they are learning!
