Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Teaching a classroom made up of gifted and talented fifth graders is like riding a roller coaster. It's always exciting, I never know what to expect, and the pace is lightning fast.
When I was offered the opportunity to teach an entire home room of advanced students, I was thrilled.
I had dreams of the rich discussions and lessons I would lead. All of those dreams came true and then some, but the challenges were many! These brilliant kids constantly need more. They have a thousand questions, observations and musings about every topic under the sun. Many of them are highly underprivileged, and have overcome so much to reach this high level of learning. It is an honor to teach these children, and I want to give them even more.
My Project
By providing my students with high interest, real world weekly and monthly magazines, I can only imagine the interests and explorations my students will discover. These magazines are the very latest in research, current events, and trends. No textbook from 1997 can spark the interest and enthusiasm that my students need to be successful. In the age of video games, bright lights, and thrill-seeking, these subscriptions will make the curriculum relevant.
