Our school is a project-based learning school, where students solve real-world problems through projects that cover all subjects. In addition, we teach Project Lead the Way, which helps to emphasize problem-solving skills that lead to success. The kids are excited to learn through these hands-on approach methods.
We are a multi-diverse elementary school with close to or above 50% free and reduced-cost lunch recipients.
Our neighborhoods vary in income levels, therefore, it is difficult to ask parents to provide extended supplies for their students. The school is always looking for extra monies to cover technology and other supplemental materials that are too expensive for parents to buy.
My Project
My school has a focus on project-based learning. The next project the students will face is how to eliminate their carbon footprint. We already have a small outdoor space set aside that we have been using for educational purposes. I would like my students to add a greenhouse with plants to this outdoor space.
We have one Earth, and it is important for us to educate the youth on how to take care of it.
This project will benefit my class, my school, our community, and his Earth. Besides my class benefitting from this project, I also advise a gardening club and they will be able to help in maintaining the garden my class establishes in the greenhouse.
