My students need a nice "Dot Spots Seating Rug" to do whole group learning on their "Kleenslate" boards, with interactive activities being projected on an "IPEVO" document camera.
While our school has a significant number of at-risk students, our school family is extremely tight-knit and supportive of one another. My 20 second graders are active learners who are practicing how to work as a group, as well as on their own. Each year is a little different, but this year in my class, I have 7 different ethnicities, 4 bilingual students, 5 students in Special Education, and 3 students in Indian Education. Our school receives free or reduced-price lunch for every student. We are not a Title I school, but we have all the needs and none of the resources.
My students are wonderful little learners, who just need a good space to work as a group.
With this being my fourth year of teaching, I have the basic classroom supplies, and would now like to have a wonderful learning space in the front of my classroom.
My Project
Having a big class rug in the front of my classroom will create such a great space to do whole group activities. We can do our Social Emotional Lessons together on the carpet, as well as our academic activities. Having the dots on the carpet will make it easy for each child to have their own space to sit.
Teaching activities that are interactive are crucial to student engagement and retention of information.
I make sure that if we're doing an activity, or learning a new concept, every student is getting the practice. The little whiteboards that I have in my classroom now are ancient and there are things written all over the backs of the boards. Having new whiteboards will allow for instant assessment of how my students are doing with a concept. I love that these Kleenslate boards have little handles for the kids to easily hold on to. I also LOVE that the dry erase markers and erasers will be attached to the board!! This will prevent many lost markers!
There is a lot of teacher guided work in first and second grade. I need an IPEVO document camera to project math, reading, writing, science, social studies, and handwriting materials for the students to see. Using the document camera, I can project how I am solving the problem and work through lessons with the students.
