Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach the best Pre-K students in Texas! My Pre-K kids are low income and their first language is Spanish. They are energetic and eager to learn. Most of them went through Harvey and had to relocate due to flooding. Even after this, they love coming to school.
In my classroom we sing, we dance, and we celebrate achievements big and small.
I am lucky to teach an all day Pre-K program. We start our day with brain smart music and end it with dancing music. Pre-K students learn counting, letters, sight words, and some even begin to read! I am proud to be a 30+ year veteran Pre-k and Kinder teacher.
My Project
I believe having a variety of tactile letters in a multitude of settings and activities will help my students learn the alphabet as a whole and letters with their sounds individually. Using the Snap Together Learning Blocks and the Lace A Word sets will build fine motor skills along with letter recognition as they play with their friends and make words. I think the Build A Letter set will engage problem solving and spacial skills as well as cooperative skills as they work together.
Having materials that are bright, fun, and engaging turns play into learning.
The goal of reading instruction in PreK is for students to learn their alphabet thoroughly. They go to the Alphabet Center every day. I need a variety of activities for this center to keep them having fun in a meaningful way all year long.
