My students need an opportunity to apply all they have learned in science this year to a hands-on learning experience at the Connecticut Science Museum. This trip will be a culmination and application of the NGSS.
I am so lucky to work with most amazing group of scholars. They are creative readers, writers, mathematicians and scientists! This past year I was their head of school and unfortunately 2 teachers in their classroom quit and left them mid year. After the second it was clear that these scholars deserved a stable and dedicated teacher to finish out their third grade year. This meant returning to the classroom after close to ten years as a principal and teacher coach. I fell in love and working with them has reminded me of all the reasons I went into education in the first place.
I decided to loop with this amazing group of scholars to grade 4 for the 2017-18 school year!
I cannot be more excited to work with them for an entire year from start to finish. Our classroom is a place that is safe, fun, rigorous and engaging. We love to do hands on STEAM projects and to read, write and create. This year is going to be the best ever!
My Project
This year our classroom has been committed to developing our STEAM(science, technology, engineering, art, and math) skills and learning about the next generation science standards. This amazing year is quickly coming to a close and we wanted to do something that was both fun and connected to our work.
Our scholars will be impacted in many positive ways as a result of this trip as they will apply what they have been learning all year in science and during STEAM time.
They will share the experience with the entire fourth grade, building new relationships that will prepare them for grade 5. They will explore the many different careers that are possible in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. This will prepare them for a bright future filled with possibilities for college, career and beyond.
This trip will allow us, along with our peers in two other grade 4 classrooms to experience an amazing trip to the new state of the art CT Science Center. We will map out our learning experiences, see a 4D movie and do the hands-on CRASH learning experience.
