The students at our public school are on an amazing journey together. We are traveling from 1st grade through 8th grade with the same teacher and the same students. Like all public schools, we must raise money for everything except standard supplies.
All of the things that make our public school unique including the method, the supplies, the curriculum, the specialty classes like folk dance, movement, woodworking, handwork, special field trips, and hands-on events, festivals, community building, science demonstrations and experiences, all must be fundraised for.
The teachers and parents at my school are amazing, trying to do so much with so little for so many. We truly see ourselves as working together for the experiences of the children.
Our school has the benefit of having a very diverse population of students, many of whom have families who can contribute time and/or money, but there are still many who cannot contribute at all in either way due to work constraints and financial strain. Every student in the world deserves an amazing education! Thank you for helping us make our dreams for these children come true.
My Project
Having taught the eight-year loop with my previous class, I know that the more hands-on and experimental activities are most effective for the students' retention of the general concepts.
With these math materials - clocks, geometric solid blocks, fraction tiles, play money and more - we can make pretend stores to practice money, build structures to explore geometric shapes and formulas, and make up games to practice numbers.
My goal is that students will learn place value, all four basic operations, number sense, measurement and telling time over the next three years with me. All of the products I have selected with help students have something to use, hold, play with and practice with over the next three years.
Right now, we are still in distance learning, and I see several of these items, like the 100 Numbers Chart being useable via the document camera I use daily to show things for them to do with their at-home manipulatives. I know the students will be excited to use them in person some day! We are together for eight years after all!!!
