Mrs. Falcon from Shreveport LA is requesting technology through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need a microphone, CD-Rs and leveled books.

Abraham Lincoln once said, âA capacity and taste for reading gives access to whatever has already been discovered by others". It is this capacity and taste for reading and access to the world I hope to give to my Special Education students.
I have a class of self-contained and resource special education students with mild to moderate exceptionalities.
While our school qualifies for Title 1 assistance, district budget cuts, increased class sizes, and cuts in federal funding have had a negative impact on the money available to purchase needed items for my class. My students are sweet, loving, quick to smile, quick to love, and eager to learn but need additional assistance and resources to reach their highest potential.
My students struggle daily with reading and often become discouraged. They may do very well reading one text, but struggle with the next. I want to give them the opportunity to relive their best reading to help deter their frustration. I am asking for a digital hand-held microphone that will allow them to record themselves reading aloud. Throughout the year we will make Cd's of stories they have read to send home and share with their families, providing them with extra literacy experiences as well. At the end of the year, we will create a memory CD of all students reading different text to help them remember their year. To ensure they have text so they can read easily and successfully, I am also requesting two different levels of I Can Read! Readers.
My students come from homes often free of the children's books I grew up enjoying.
Yet, most have access to CD players and computers where they can listen and relive the stories they learn this school year. It is my hope that this will help me ignite a love of reading in my students that will benefit them for years to come. Once you can read, you can do anything.
