Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in an urban low-income school my students face many challenges outside of the classroom. Despite these challenges they are hard working, determined, and inquiring group of students. I am requesting funding to take my 5th graders on a learning experience of a lifetime outside of the classroom.
As their science teacher I often see my students struggling to make real world connections to the content due to lack of opportunities they have outside of school.
Unfortunately, families in our school do not have the resources to supply these learning opportunities for my students. This lack of opportunity makes it difficult to create those real world connections and often times these questions are posed on state testing leaving our students at a disadvantage from those who has these experiences.
My Project
My students have worked hard all year long in the classroom setting. With limited funds they have been unable to learn outside of the class and set them up for real world applications of learning. Being able to learn in the field is something everyone should experience.
My students need transportation to get to a fully funded field trip of hiking in the mountains, learning about nature first hand, becoming nature trekkers, and having a once in a lifetime experience.
Being in the city we have a 2.5 hour ride to location to learn in the field, so this is an experience my students may not have the opportunity to experience otherwise.
