This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I currently teach at a Title I school in Mississippi where 100 percent of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. Most of the families in my school are faced with many hardships. These hardships cause the students to miss out on many life experiences.
My students have such a love for reading and learning.
I hope to continue to motivate my students to always do their best and to never give up no matter how tough things may get.
My Project
We do a lot of learning on the floor: read alouds, whole group, calendar time, independent reading, and so much more. Comfortable seating is very important in a first grade classroom.
This rug will allow my students to have a comfortable place to sit during our floor time.
It will be used during whole group and small group instruction. It is fun and inviting and each student will be able to have their own square which will cut down on distractions and allow the students to maintain focus.
The rug that we are currently using has been in my classroom for over twelve years. It is covered in stains and has holes in it. A clean, comfortable, inviting rug is much needed!
