Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I love that my students come together to really embrace the idea of a "classroom family". My scholars come from a variety of culturally diverse and rich backgrounds and each one of them is an intricate piece to our classroom puzzle. Our school is Title I, in which all students receive free breakfast and approximately 75% receive free or reduced price lunch. Our classroom is a welcoming and safe environment for students to learn, ask questions and grow.
My students are hard workers and do their best to maintain a growth mindset throughout their studies.
They always come to school ready and willing to learn. The discussions we have around subject matter are always rich, meaningful, and real. This being said; my students also love to be silly and never fail to express themselves in their own unique ways whether it be showing off "the worm" or reciting their favorite line from "Hamilton".
My Project
My students and I are requesting a rug for our classroom to use during our morning meetings, daily lessons , and small guided reading groups. My students need a new cozy carpet to invite them to learn in the most comfortable way. We spend most of our day on the floor doing our mini lessons, and my students would love to have a comfy space of their own while they take on the learning challenges of third grade.
A classroom rug will allow my students to have access to a cozy and clean place to hold morning meetings, as well as provide comfortable seating for mini lessons through-out the day.
Coming together to learn at the carpet sets an intimate learning culture and process that can't be achieved by just sitting across the room scattered in desks. Students will be able to have their own "spot", but at the same time be close enough to do turn- and- talks and have meaningful conversations about their learning with both myself and one another.
