First graders are eager to learn and are full of energy. I have a diverse group of children with many strengths and areas of growth, both academic and social. I strive to meet their needs with a welcoming environment, engaging learning, comfortable seating, and a plethora of reading materials.

My Project
First graders are wiggly. In order to keep students engaged, our lessons are short and numerous. As we learn, we utilize our whole group carpet area and our individual desks. Our carpet has distinct areas to show each students where to sit. Unfortunately, our 16 year old rug has seen better days. It has holes and doesn't add to the positive learning atmosphere we strive for.
We need a new carpet area for read-alouds and whole group activities.
Students love to sit on our rug. We sit in rows for read-alouds or lessons. We sit around the rug in a circle for class meetings and discussions. The rug is a vital part of our classroom.
