This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in one of the largest cities in the state of Massachusetts, and I'm very proud to be an urban educator. The school I teach in is the same elementary school I attended more than 40 years ago!

Every new year brings with it new challenges, but my goal is to motivate my students to open their minds to new experiences.

In a world where students are judged by a score on a standardized test, I want them to see themselves as more than a number. I want my students to see themselves beyond a number on a test.

My Project

Our classroom library is lacking a rug, which I believe to be a necessary accessory to create a cheerful learning environment.

Norman Vincent Peale said, "Imagination is the true magic carpet."

So, I can't think of a better way to have a child use their imagination then listening to story, sitting comfortably on a plush carpet. Every day I put aside 15 minutes a day to read aloud to my students. Whether it's a classic such as "Oliver Twist", or a current novel that teaches tolerance, students are never to old to be read to. With the addition of a rug, I'll be able to bring my students on the ride of their lives, all within the confines of our magical classroom.
