A peaceful place to go and do enhanced or remedial lessons is needed. I teach middle school math in NY. We are the most diverse area in the world. The school and neighborhood are bursting with energy. We need a quiet area for refuge and study.
I have been working in this school for 7 years. I'm moving into a room in the basement that is very large and divided into areas by columns.
It's ideal for a sectioned area that can be used for small group or individual work. It's such a benefit if kids can work in a comfortable and separate area.
This is going to be a perfect place where peer to peer tutoring can be accomplished. It's going to be private, and comfortable. Kids are going to want to go there and be helped by a classmate. Some middle school kids easily get the fraction, decimal, percent conversions. For others this is the most difficult thing in the world. Sometimes another student, in a comfortable environment, can communicate the solution much better than a teacher speaking to a whole class.
It will also be a great place for enrichment. Where a few kids working together can solve complex algebra problems.
This space offers an opportunity to give the children of this crowded and busy community something they really need, a place of quiet and comfort. They can do their work individually or in small groups. Carpeting and bean bag chairs will fill the bill.
