Mrs. Williams from Fort Worth TX is requesting supplies through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need an area rug that will provide a concrete way for them to build color and shape recognition and identify the skills necessary for them to appreciate individual seating space in the learning environment.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students are the most exciting, energetic, curious, creative, and unique 4-5 years old that you would ever want to meet. They come to school each day ready for fun and learning experiences anywhere from rich literature and letter recognition to math, science and social studies.
They are developing social skills that will equip them to exhibit great character in the classroom and school.
Overall, they love to learn and play and are amazed by every level of engagement that the classroom affords.
Demographically, my classroom is about 98% African American and 2% Anglo. We have a large percentage of students in our school that are economically disadvantaged, and, therefore, our students receive both free breakfast and free lunch daily.
My Pre-K students are divided into 4 groups - each named after a color. These color coded groups make it possible to give students the color and space support they need for "on the rug time".
A classroom carpet for seating and learning will not only support learning colors and shapes, but the divisions naturally embedded in the carpet will help my students with classroom routines and procedures, as well as assist them with appreciation of individual learning space.
Utilizing the carpet as a learning tool ultimately will support classroom organization and will save valuable class time. Organization is essential for students to be successful. This organizational tool will help my students to transition to circle time more smoothly and spend more of their class time working on other learning adventures.
