Help me give my students the opportunity to read a variety of genres presented in a more fun and engaging way such as magazines with colorful illustrations, multiple text-features and highly engaging fictional and non-fiction passages to read.
Research has shown when students develop a love for reading, they become better learners. Their passion grows for learning due to the topics they read.
My third grade students love to read and enjoy reading everyday.
We are looking to incorporate a new way of reading through Storyworks magazines. Not only would the magazines help to capture these young readers' minds, but it will also help my young readers to have fun as they learn standard-based reading skills the magazine presents throughout each of their stories.
Most students are not fans of reading. When asked what their favorite subject is, most students reply with math or science. That is because those subjects are so hands-on. They find reading to be daunting and such a challenge. Their interests must be peaked in order for students to carry out the task of reading.
I believe my students will develop an interest and a love for reading when their reading source is a magazine!
A magazine tailored for kids and the content of the source will have highly engaging themes to grab the readers' attention. Most of the time, students read from a paper or a workbook that includes only a passage and questions; these magazines are just the opposite of that!
