I am a fourth grade teacher who is about to start a new year with 28 amazing students. My students are so deserving of quality reading material to spark even more of their creativity and knowledge. I am starting at a new school and want to give my students the best possible. 4th graders are independent and want to make their own choices. I love that I have the responsibility of guiding, nurturing, and teaching them through a hectic transition to ten years old!
Each year, I see my students read great books. Most are the new, popular nonfiction books. While I love seeing my students fall in love with great text, I want them to see and know there are more than just books!! Reading and learning can be done through books, magazines, brochures, comics, you name it! Through this project, I hope to foster knowledge, awareness, a love of nonfiction text, and open mindedness. Through these Scholastic magazines, my students will have the opportunity to read up to date informational text that will create an engaging, collaborative environment where students will learn and grow their minds. I hope my students will appreciate the short articles for independent reading as well as engaging whole group and small group lessons!
