My students need reading materials that cover current events so they understand current events they see/hear about outside of the classroom. This magazines will encourage my students to read, thus increasing their overall literacy scores.

My Students
My students attend an alternative middle school program that is focused on therapeutic and rehabilitative education. Many of my students suffer from mental illness, emotional disturbance, and delayed development. These students suffer from past traumatic experiences. Because these traumas are unresolved, treatment is ongoing, and our staff must deliver unique lesson plans in order to provide our students an education. As a social studies and language arts teacher, I am focused on developing content that is relevant and custom made for my students.
My Project
My students need materials for developing literacy and expanding social awareness. A subscription to Time for kids will accomplish both goals. Students in my classroom struggle with reading and social skills. Time for kids will give my room materials that encourage my students to read, and see current events in a way they will understand and value. Providing students with Time for kids will show current events and factual news. Due to YouTube growing in popularity, I struggle as an educator to provide reading material that peaks their interest and gets them reading. Time for kids will significantly help my classroom.
