Ronald Reagan said, "Information is the oxygen of the modern age. It seeps through the walls topped by barbed wire, it wafts across the electrified borders." My classroom is full of students eager to learn, but without important tools to do so. These magazines will help turn readers into thinkers.
My 20 inspirational 4th grade students attend an urban school in Indiana that is very diverse.
Our school is both a multi-cultural and ELL school. Due to the economic status of our students, 100% of them receive free breakfast and lunch. Despite our hurdles, these students earned the highest overall pass rate on our state test for our district last year. In order to continue to strive, new materials need to be used to expand their abilities.
My Project
Our school strives to make learning relevant, rigorous, and exciting. These 3 new sets of magazines will help teach a variety of reading comprehension strategies along with making math meaningful by applying core math concepts to exciting real-world stories.
Informative reading can be found in places other than between the cover of a book. These magazines will help relate reading and math to extraordinary news stories from around the world.
Readers focus their attention on making connections among the ideas in a text and between these ideas and their background knowledge.
Therefore, they are able to focus on comprehension. By donating to this project, you are providing a means to expand one's learning and strengthen one's reading skills. Please help plant the seed so my students will become life-long learners.
