My Students

My classroom will be filled with inquisitive and creative first graders next year in a neighborhood school that is only in its fifth year. They are a beautifully diverse bunch of kids ethnically and economically and some have some unique needs and/or English is not their family's first language. They eager to read and I want to provide foundational materials and experiences for them this year so they can thrive. Scholastic News and Science Spin Magazines provide engaging nonfiction reading materials just right for their age and reading level.

My Project

I am requesting a class subscription of Scholastic News and Science Spin for my first grade class next year. This is a fantastic resource and includes online videos, games, and vocabulary activities. The topics and pictures are very engaging and a great resource for nonfiction reading. First graders are learning to read at a very rapid rate and it can be a challenge to find enough nonfiction resources to keep them busy.

I have used these magazines for years and my students each year really respond to them as a nonfiction source!

They include many issues on animals, plants, space, engineering, Lego, and holidays, which are right up first graders' interest alleys.
