My Students

My students are from a small rural farming community in Idaho. They know more about cows, horses, and farm life then I do. While we are a poorer community, we feel as if we are all a family. The students are energetic and like to learn new information with engaging hands on and and varied learning activities.

The students especially love Science, Physical Education, Art, and Music.

Our classroom works on Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science skills. They display their creativeness as they approach each of their subjects in different manners. The approaches to learning in our classroom is based on the individual needs of the students. I vary the lessons in the classroom to meet their individual needs.

The school works hard on our school code of conduct. One, be respectful; two, be prepared; three, be positive. Our school focuses on the building up of others and our individual self's, as we live up to a rigorous standard of what it means to be a school and community member, who benefits others around them.

My Project

Students love be creative and work with manipulatives to gain success in understanding Mathematic and Scientific measurements. The scales in the project will enable the students to understand the differences between units of measurement for mass and weight, both Metric and Standard. They will be specifically be working with grams vs. ounces and kilograms vs. pounds. The project calls for the students to weight items and compare and contrast the differences of each item. While they are doing this project they will be able to make real world applications, when applying their knowledge to the world around them.

By donating to our project, the students will be establishing fundamental Math and Science skills, which enables the students to create a schema of reference for their futures!

The liquid measurement will aid the student's concepts of capacity, cups to gallons and grams to milliliters. The students at times struggle to understand what capacity means and how we estimate the liquid amounts in the containers we see everyday. The project calls for students to be able to experiment with different sizes of containers to compare and contrast and to relate metric and standard measurements.

Our class is in need of these materials to support their learning. It is proven that many students, teachers, and adults learn better with the ability to actuality touch and do when it comes to Math and Science. The items requested will help the students to have a better understanding then even a video on the matter would do. In order to provide the best quality of education to my wonderful, energetic students, I am requesting these manipulatives for our classroom. Thank you for your time and assistance in supporting our Mad Scientists!
