It's time for my students to get out of the books and get their hands on science material. They are ready to experience what science really is, and are eager to become true scientists in our classroom laboratory.
This is a public school where 65% are free or reduced lunch.
We also have a large population (40%) who are bussed to our school from over 20 miles away. We work hard to create a community feeling in our school and have students feel welcomed. We have high attendance everyday (98%), and our students are eager to be there. Many of my students are struggling readers and have become frustrated in past science classes, which resulted in them misbehaving. However, I have already seen great gains in their behavior and in their enthusiasm for science with the inquiry labs I do with them.
My Project
The resources in this project will reach 90 students on multiple grade levels. They will be used to take my advanced placement (AP) students to the next level with science exploration. They will be used with my struggling readers to spark interest on different science topics. My students will observe polymer chains and learn about their chemical properties. The forensic resources will include multidisciplinary science fields while emphasizing the scientific method. Students will use physics and chemistry to examine "blood" spatter and finger prints. They will make observations and inferences on multiple inquiry labs. Lastly, they will analyze all data and reach conclusions.
This project will introduce new science experiments that my students have never had the opportunity to explore.
Donations made to this project will give my students a chance to broaden their science knowledge. My goal for this project is to reach as many of my science students as possible and have them experience science in a new way.
